About the Event

Having access to the waste of a textile factory was one of the detonating factors of the birth of Caralarga. The cotton residue, discarded for tiny production errors, was a breakthrough discovery for us; we found a material with a creative potential that we have explored and discovered for six years. We realized that the best materials are those that are easily and locally accessible, and which invite us to explore the ways in which we can transform them into jewelry, clothing and decor pieces that reflect and highlight the natural qualities of each material. We believe that it’s important to know the clothes and materials we are wearing, because the creation and production process directly affects how we wear and feel our clothes.

We are offering a Caralarga Fashion Open Studio tutorial on Instagram TV in which the guests will learn how we work and think about materials in Caralarga. In Caralarga's digital Fashion Open Studio tutorial we’ll show you how to work with residue fabric and clothes to transform them into textile applications through our fraying and embroidering techniques. This applications will serve to decorate, mend, customize and give a new life to clothes that would otherwise be discarded or deemed unusable. We will teach you how to create either a patch made with our fraying technique or a flower brooch, that you can add to your clothes to customize them or give them a second life. We want to demonstrate that exploring the possibilities of residue through creativity results in unique, consciously made pieces with their own special history.
