IGC FASHION: The journey of barkcloth
Time & Location
About the Event
IGC Fashion, is a Ugandan streetwear label based in Kampala. They imagine how ancient African fashion might look when combined with the modern urban architecture they see developing around them. They use natural and indigenous materials such as Nsimbi (cowrie shells), Lubugo (barkcloth), second-hand garments as fabrics combined with experimental shapes and patterns to make clothes. Inviting you into their studio in Kampala, Uganda, IGC fashion will be giving you an insight into how they make their signature bark cloth bags. They will be guiding through their entire design process, whilst also highlighting the history and importance of Uganda's ancient textile, barkcloth.
